Gigaset is the first manufacturer to move its smartphone production

Munich, June 1st, 2018 – Gigaset is the first ICT manufacturer to move its smartphone production to Germany What was previously unthinkable, is proving to be a competitive advantage for the traditional telecommunications company thanks to new Industry 4.0 production methods at its plant in Bocholt, Germany. The shift also opens up new perspectives with regard to customers, retail partners and the environment.

“At the start, we simply wanted to find out whether it would be possible to produce competitive smartphones in Germany,” says Andreas Merker, Head of Mobile Devices at Gigaset. “The further our pilot project progressed, the greater the potential turned out to be.” There are currently more than 100 smartphone manufacturers worldwide. Both the German and the international market are highly competitive. As products become more and more similar in terms of technology and looks, surviving in the market depends increasingly on new unique selling points.

Gigaset GS185 – the first smartphone produced in Germany
With the GS185, the German telecommunications pioneer is demonstrating not only its ability to reinvent itself but also its innovative spirit. The Gigaset GS185 coming off the assembly line today had its start in 2014 with the development of a manufacturing concept that forms the basis for today’s production. For the 2016 and 2017 smartphones, Gigaset produced sample series in Germany that helped the company optimize the modern production lines for the market launch of its own first high-volume series.

“In recent years, a separate engineering team has developed and implemented whole new production systems on the basis of modern Industry 4.0 concepts,” says Jörg Wissing, Head of Automation Technology at Gigaset. “This also includes the targeted deployment of human-machine interaction.” In addition, the high degree of automation ensures a consistently reproducible quality.

German production as a competitive advantage
More flexibility, logistics advantages, more job security in Germany, and improved sustainability – the benefits of German production in the pilot project for the Gigaset GS185 are quite varied. “By manufacturing in Bocholt we can offer the retail trade and large customers a whole new level of flexibility,” says Oliver Kinne, Head of Sales, Mobile Devices, at Gigaset. “Customers are already expressing great interest, both in Germany and abroad, where German production is considered a clear indicator of quality. And having production at a central location like Bocholt in the heart of Europe also delivers new potential on the logistics side.”

Safeguarding jobs at the Bocholt plant, which currently employs about 550 people, plays a key role in the context of producing smartphones in Germany. Down the line, there is potential to grow in the region and hire more skilled labour. People will also be needed beyond the actual production line in areas such as logistics, product management, service and maintenance. The latter also involves sustainability aspects, since a repair is more resource-efficient than a replacement. And in terms of flat cardboard packaging and the flexible design of country-specific variants, producing in Germany reduces the use of paper by around 90 per cent compared with production in Asia. Ultimately, optimizing the supply chain in Germany reduces the entire logistics effort in terms of volume, weight, and material and product delivery, hence reducing the carbon footprint considerably.

Outlook
The current pilot project for the Gigaset GS185 is the first step toward more smartphone products from Germany. “Our goal at present is not to produce the entire portfolio in Germany. The other two new GS180 and GS100 models will be produced in Asia,” Andreas Merker goes on to say. “We will wait and see whether the GS185 USP generates interest among customers in Germany. Internationally, we are already seeing a lot of interest in the new unique selling point.

Gigaset AG sets course for 2019: New Finance Director from January 2019

Munich, December 21st, 2018 – In the context of the latest developments, Gigaset AG is setting the course for a powerful start to the year 2019. Thomas Schuchardt, SVP Controlling Gigaset, will take over the finance department of Gigaset Communications GmbH as of January 1, 2019 as Finance Director. He succeeds Stephan Mathys, who has laid down his mandate as CFO of Gigaset AG on 13.12.2018 for personal reasons.

“In a producing company with such a large product range as Gigaset and so many new projects planned for 2019, economic success also stands and falls with controlling – whether at the project or company level,” says CEO Klaus Weßing. “We are in the process of preparing for the launch of a whole range of new products for 2019, and we have deliberately decided to delegate responsibility for the financial department to an operational-level expert until further notice. Thomas Schuchardt during the last two years has proven  that he can manage the core business in a far-sighted and cost-conscious manner and at the same time support the management board in the development of the new product areas.”

Thomas Schuchardt has been Senior Vice President Controlling at Gigaset since January 1st, 2017. At Gigaset Communications GmbH he accompanied the successful start of numerous new products in the ranges, Phones, Smartphones, Smart Home and Professional.

The 45-year-old has extensive financial experience. Before joining Gigaset, he worked in various major companies such as E.ON, Hochtief and Saint-Gobain in leading positions in the areas of controlling and finance and brings this into his new role.

Outlook 2018 confirmed
Gigaset AG also reaffirms the adjusted 2018 outlook from 26.11.2018, in particular, the unchanged outlook at the EBITDA level. Here, a corridor between EUR 20 and 28 million is still expected.

“The fourth quarter has developed well at the moment and the Christmas business is developing promising so far. For us, the year continues sales-wise until 31.12.2018 – we will use every day,” says Klaus Weßing. “It is particularly gratifying that growth is emerging in the three strategic fields of smartphones, smart home and professional compared to the previous year 2018.”

Product planning 2019 finalized
In the year 2018, Gigaset has increasingly positioned itself in the new areas beyond the phones. The products are becoming increasingly digital. Numerous new products are planned for 2019 – from the home hub to intelligent hands-free solutions to increased activities in the area of digital services.

On April 30th, 2019, Gigaset AG will present its financial figures for the financial year 2018 as part of the annual results press conference.

Mimosa globally Introduces their new Mimosa C5x Modular Radio

SANTA CLARA, CA — Mimosa Networks today announced the Mimosa C5x, the industry’s most versatile, integrated 5 GHz radio with four modular, twist-on antenna options. With best-in-class Front-to-Back (FTB) and Front-to-Side (FTS) ratios for superior noise immunity, and extended frequency operation from 4.9-6.4 GHz, the ultra-rugged C5x is disrupting the industry and sets new price/performance benchmarks for integrated wireless connectivity.

Cost Effective Solution Scales with your Network

The modular design of the C5x is a perfect fit for network operators, offering the ease and simplicity of an integrated radio coupled with antenna gain flexibility for streamlined installation and reduced inventory costs. The C5x is optimized for short- to mid-range links with a native 8 dBi gain that can be increased to 12, 16, 20 or 25 dBi using a set of modular twist-on antennas. With a disruptive price point, the C5x is designed for cost-effective point-to-multipoint (PTMP) deployments delivering up to 100BaseT of IP throughput out-of-the-box, and up to 500 Mbps when paired with a “C5x-PTMP” feature key upgrade (sold separately). A separate point-to-point (PTP) “C5x-PTP” feature key will upgrade the C5x to deliver up to 700 Mbps throughput for a PTP link.

Incredible RF Performance

Fabricated in rugged die-cast metal to excel in the harshest environments, the custom-engineered N5-X Cassegrain or horn antennas are optimized for gain across a broad spectrum range. Best-in-class noise isolation provides immunity from interference with breakthrough FTB and FTS performance, delivering 10bB improvement in the Signal-to-Interference-Plus-Noise Ratio (SINR). Based on Mimosa’s field-proven C5c software, the Mimosa C5x, like all Mimosa products, is engineered with extended frequency support and takes advantage of both 4.9 GHz public safety applications in the United States and unlicensed frequencies up to 6.4 GHz worldwide (where allowed by local regulations). In addition, the accompanying N5-X modular antennas are specifically optimized for C5x extended frequency support.

Packs a Powerful Punch in a Small Form Factor

At just 17.5 centimeters in height and weighing only 370 grams, the C5x delivers with an incredibly sleek form factor, perfect for visually sensitive installations. And with a typical energy consumption of sub-10w, the C5x is ideal for solar-powered, battery back-up installations, where power and reliability are at a premium.

Patton Earns 2017 Product of the Year for PoE Extender

Patton Earns 2017 Product of the Year for PoE Extender

Patton Electronics—US manufacturer of UC, cloud, and IoT enabling solutions for carrier, enterprise and industrial networks—announced today the company’s CopperLink 1101 Power-over-Ethernet Extenderhas claimed the 2017 Product of the Year Award from Communications Solutions magazine.

We are honored to accept this award,” said Johnnie Grant III, Product Line Manager, Patton. “The distance limitations of Ethernet and the challenges of delivering electrical power often make it too expensive or technically impossible for system designers to position endpoint devices where they are needed. Patton technology changes all that.”

Patton’s new Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Extender changes the game for IP-network engineers who design solutions involving IP cameras, IP phones, IP-enabled smart-LED lighting, digital signage, traffic devices, industrial sensors, monitoring devices, flow meters, wireless access points (WAPs), intercoms, sensors, card readers, HVAC controls, PLCs, and a host of other Ethernet endpoint devices.

Available in water-proof IP67-compliant, outdoor enclosures, the CopperLink 1101 PoE Extender extends extend 10/100 Ethernet plus up to 15 Watts of 802.3af (or legacy) PoE up to 3,300 feet (915 meters) to IP-enabled devices using a single pair of common copper telephone wires or coaxial cable.

“Network cabling is often embedded in concrete, inside walls, or buried under asphalt,” Mr. Grant explains. “Replacing all that can cost a fortune! Our solution conserves capital by re-using legacy cabling versus installing new Cat5… or fiber, which can’t deliver power.”

Standard PoE specifies 4-wire cabling, yet the CL1101 operates over 2 wires. By leveraging low-voltage copper infrastructure to deliver power the CL1101 eliminates the expense of a high-voltage construction project while enabling All-IP migration and the Internet of Things (IoT).

“Congratulations to Patton for their success,” said Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. “The CopperLink 1101 product line is truly among the most innovative solutions brought market to this year. Patton’s PoE extender series facilitates business-transforming voice, data and video communications. I look forward to continued excellence from Patton in 2018 and beyond.”

About Patton

Patton is all about connections. It is our joy and mission to connect real-world customer challenges with high-quality, right-priced solutions—complemented by unrivaled customer service and technical support.
