2011-03-04 - Far South Networks Com.X1 with SSD

As of this month, all Far South Networks Com.X1 IP PBX platforms will have an internal 32GB Solid State Drive (SSD). This new Com.X1 package offers a unique IP telephony to the SMME market, providing significant enhancements to system reliability, resilience, security and overall longevity.

SSDs store data persistently in solid-state flash memory, instead of using the spinning disk platter and moving heads of a traditional hard disk drive. They offer significant performance and reliability enhancements over legacy drives, while maintaining 100% compatible interface and functionality.

The Com.X1 with SSD offers the following significant benefits over traditional HDDs:

  • Resilience: Containing no moving parts, SSDs are far less susceptible to physical shock than HDDs.
  • Performance: Faster CPU operation through lower latency and access times.
  • Lower power: Lower operating power consumption, reduced hear dissipation, increased longevity.
  • Security: The following measures have been enacted to secure system boot, recovery and continued operation:
    • SSD based secure boot partition significantly reduces chances of files system corruption of boot sector.
    • SSD global wear levelling and error control combined withext3 journaling file system ensures that the platform can enact self-recovery from most file system corruption events.
