2007-11-08 - VoIP first for Africa

Vocal Pulse, a local Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Business Solutions provider, has recently launched VPX, a Hybrid-Hosted IP PBX telecommunication solution - the first of its kind in Africa.

VPX is designed to meet the demanding business needs of today, ranging from single-site businesses, with basic telephony needs, to distributed call centers and even multinational corporations.

What makes this solution special is its unique Hybrid-Hosted architecture that has the reliability of being onsite, but the flexibility of hosted systems, allowing seamless support to branch offices, as well as mobile and home-based users. In addition, VPXs’ advanced functionality significantly improves ease of use and offers a host of advanced features and Call-Centre capabilities such as Auto-Attendant(IVR), Drag and Drop controls, CRM Integration, Outlook Integration, PSTN Fallback & plenty more.

VPX is powered by software pioneered by US company, Fonality. The software is based on Asterisk, with an extra 40 000 lines of code generated. The result: A bullet proof version of Asterisk that's a stable, feature rich and user-friendly telephony platform that has already received numerous industry awards.

GM Steve van der Westhuizen had this to say about VPX: "We see no reason why African SME's shouldn't be able to benefit from new technologies that are being implemented to great effect in overseas markets..."

To date, more than 2,500 customers with 53,000 phones are running the same software, and have used VPX to place more than 130 million VoIP and traditional calls. Growth is set to increase as SME's start to see the value of an affordable, feature-rich system, better tailored to their needs, in comparison the high-cost offerings of traditional PBX companies.
